Cockroaches

Damage:
Pioneer Pest Services
Cockroaches spread human disease by depositing disease organisms on food and utensils. The American cockroach, which comes into contact with human excrement in sewers or with pet droppings, may transmit bacteria that cause Salmonella and Shigella. German cockroaches are believed to be capable of transmitting disease-causing organisms such as Staphylococcus, hepatitis, and coliform bacteria. They also have been implicated in the spread of typhoid and dysentery.

Recent studies have found a strong association between the presence of cockroaches and increases in the severity of asthma symptoms in individuals who are sensitive to cockroach allergens.

Detection and Treatment:
Cockroaches become pests in homes, restaurants, hospitals, warehouses, offices, and virtually any structure that has food preparation or storage areas. These pests are common even in the cleanest of crowded urban areas and older dwellings. It’s usually not difficult to discover an infestation, because they are often visible. Treatment generally involves sealing cracks and crevices to block entrance; keeping food and trash areas clean to eliminate their food source; and the professional application of non repellant residual spray and insect bait on a regular basis. Click here for more info.

Ants

Damage:
Ants cause various types of damage, depending upon the variety. Carpenter ants’ nesting activities can weaken building structures and the foraging workers have large mandibles with which they can bite or give a strong pinch. Pharaoh ants may transmit serious diseases, mating males and females are winged but do not fly therefore identifying swarms are never seen within the structure. A fire ant’s sting is potentially deadly to susceptible individuals, and all ants contaminate the food they infest.

Detection and Treatment
:
Ants build massive colonies, so their presence is generally detected when you see their nests or the ants themselves. Treatments involve insect baiting, non-repellant residual spray, and sealing off entry to buildings.

Fleas and Ticks

Damage:
Fleas are pests of human and their domestic animals all over the world. While most fleas prefer non-human hosts, many can and do feed readily on humans when infestations are heavy or when other hosts are not available. Fleas are able to carry other disease-causing organisms, such as bacteria, protozoans, rickettsia or viruses, from one host to another.

Detection and Treatment;

Customers calling about fleas will see small dark insects that jump. These insects may be biting people and there will usually be a dog or cat living in the home or apartment. Rats, mice, raccoons, bats, squirrels or other wild animals nesting in or near the home may also be the primary hosts for the fleas involved. Flea infestations can occur even when there are no obvious animal hosts on the premises. When pets have been removed, such as during vacation periods or when a home or apartment is vacated, flea larvae will continue to develop. When people return to the premises, the newly developed and starved fleas will feed vigorously and often cause severe irritation. Besides treatment of fleas on the pet(s), which will be left to the homeowner or a veterinarian, applications will be required to all harborage areas indoors and, frequently, to selected areas outdoors. No people or pets will be on the premises during treatment, or until all spray residues have dried.

Silverfish

These insects consume small amounts of human food and contaminate it with their body scales and droppings. They can do considerable damage to some natural and synthetic fibers, books and other paper products. Their feeding marks are irregular and often appear as a surface etching. They also may leave yellow stains, especially on linens. An inspection will be conducted to insure all clutter and food items which may be supporting the infestation are removed. A residual insecticide application will be made to all possible cracks, crevices and or other hiding places.

Spiders

All spiders use venom when they bite and kill their prey, the black widow and the brown recluse spiders are the only North American species consistently dangerous to humans. Control of spiders indoors involves removal of the spider, webs and egg sacs. Residual  sprays are used.  Since spiders feed on insects, measures that control unwanted insects will also reduce spider populations.

Biting and Stinging Pests

Damage:
Bees, wasps, and scorpions are dangerous because of their painful and potentially harmful stings.

Detection and Treatment:
Wasp nests and bee hives should be removed by professionals with protective gear. Insecticides are also used. Scorpion problems are usually treated chemically. Click here to learn more about other insects.

Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees resemble large bumblebees, but have very different nesting behavior. Many types of wood are selected for nesting, but softer woods are preferred. Unpainted or well-weathered wood is much more susceptible to attack than hardwood or well-painted timbers. They bore long tunnels or galleries into wood and divide these tunnels into cells where individual larvae will develop. Females often enlarge existing galleries or use old ones, so very complex gallery systems can be developed over a number of years. These galleries are often made in the siding or window trim of homes, and in such cases the structural strength of tunneled timbers can be reduced. Carpenter bees can be controlled by use of dust or spray treatments.

Rodents

Damage:
Rodents consume and contaminate food. They gnaw on electrical wires, wooden structures, and tear insulation in walls and ceilings for nesting. Rodents can transmit disease to humans, pets, and livestock, including typhus, leptospirosis, trichinosis, and salmonellosis.

Detection and Treatment:
The presence of mice and rats is usually detected by the damage they cause to food and structures, by their droppings, and by their nests. Treatment involves eliminating all entry points and population reduction by the application of traps.

Education and Preventive Steps

We can show you numerous ways to keep pests from disrupting your home, including:

Keeping them homeless

  • Seal cracks and crevices where pests can get into your home.

  • Get rid of stacks of newspaper, papers, bags, and cardboard boxes that make good homes for pests.
Keeping them hungry
  • Keep a tight lid on trash cans and empty them often.

  • Store food in tightly sealed containers.

  • Wipe up spills and crumbs right away.

  • Clean your dirty dishes right after eating.

  • Pests thrive on moisture. Keep them from getting to water by fixing leaks and not leaving dish water in the sink overnight.
Pioneer Pest ServicesThe Pest Tubes In-The-Wall Pest Control

Performance

The Pest-Tubes “In the walls” system is a permanent built-in system that delivers the material directly in the walls and hollow areas, eliminating the pests right where they nest, hide and breed.

No Risk

EPA approved pre-measured amounts of products are injected inside the walls using the Pest-Tubes  “In the walls” system, allowing occupation of the structure even during treatment without risk to children, adults, or pets.

Stability

The Pest-Tubes “In the walls” system consists of space-age polyethylene tubing with evenly spaced perforations facilitating product distribution. The tubing is manufactured without connectors, eliminating any chance of separation. The products used are “non-clogging”. The tubes will not clog or break apart.

No Hassle

Pioneer Pest ServicesPest-Tubes offers maximum convenience with a centrally located exterior injection port. You don’t even have to be home for applications. Since tubing distributes the material within the walls, there is no need for moving furniture, emptying cabinets and closets, or changing plans.

New Home Construction

Contact us to have the Pest-Tubes “In the walls” system installed in interior and exterior wall studs, much the same as electrical wiring, just after electrical inspection an just prior to insulation placement.
